The NPCs - Full Game Description

The NPCs is an original offline 3D household life simulation game created by happystoner5420 Games. It's a standalone browser-based game that requires no internet connection, installation, server, or API keys to play.

Core Concept

The game simulates the daily lives of virtual residents in a household neighborhood. Every person has a life, and every life has a story. Unlike traditional games, residents have autonomous AI that makes decisions based on their needs, personalities, memories, learned preferences, and relationships.

Gameplay Overview

Starting Your Household:

Begin with an empty home and create your residents from scratch

Choose gender (Male/Female), appearance, name, and personality traits

Add as many residents as your computer can handle (no 8-resident limit)

Residents can be added during setup or after gameplay begins

Daily Life Simulation:

Direct control: Click residents to select them, click furniture to perform activities, or click floors to walk

Autonomous behavior: Residents independently choose activities based on their needs (hunger, energy, hygiene, bladder, social, fun), personality traits, learned preferences, and memories

Needs management: Residents must eat, sleep, use bathrooms, socialize, and entertain themselves

Time system: Adjustable game speed (1×, 3×, 8×), with automatic 8× acceleration when everyone is asleep or at work

Social & Relationship System

Building Connections:

Conversations and flirting gradually build friendship, trust, and romance between residents

Strong connections can become romantic partnerships

Romantic residents autonomously flirt once friendship/trust develops

Social interactions include: compliments, jokes, apologies, arguments, insults, physical affection (hugs, kisses), and even fights

Neighborhood Life (October 15, 2026 update):

Six lots total: Your household plus 5 neighboring homes

10 persistent neighbors: Visit their furnished homes or invite them over

Telephones: Call friends, invite neighbors, order pizza, or call 911

Online chat: Use computers to chat with contacts, building relationships remotely

Guest system: Accepted invitations bring neighbors to your door; say goodbye when done

Career & Life Progression

Jobs & Income:

Apply for jobs using computers (residents can do this autonomously if ambitious)

Attend scheduled work shifts and earn wages

Get promotions based on mood, needs, skills, and attendance

Skills improve through work experience and training activities

Skills & Activities:

Cooking: Learn from cookbooks; fetch ingredients from refrigerators and cook on ranges

Logic: Train by reading regular books

Creativity: Play piano or guitar

Fitness: Use treadmills or swim in pools

Building & Furnishing

Home Construction (Build Mode - press B):

45-item Home store: Beds, couches, TVs, computers, kitchen appliances, desks, lamps, bookshelves, showers, bathtubs, pools, phones, pianos, guitars, and more

Build walls (leave gaps for doorways), place furniture, and decorate

Budget-based purchases with placement validation

Upgrade system: Replace items in place, paying the difference after 70% trade-in value

Premium furniture improves need satisfaction and skill learning

Undo/redo support for construction

Safety & Emergencies

Fire System:

Fires can start and spread to nearby furniture (walls block spread)

Smoke detectors sound alarms and dispatch firefighters

Residents evacuate automatically

Use fire extinguishers or wait for help

Damaged furniture must be repaired or replaced

Burglary System:

18% chance of nightly burglaries

Burglars enter through actual openings and steal valuable items (TVs, computers, etc.)

Armed security systems dispatch police

Police pursue burglars and recover/reimburse stolen property

Emergency Services:

Call 911 for police/fire response

Order pizza delivery ($25)

Uniformed officers and delivery couriers physically visit your home

Advanced Features

Substance Effects:

Coffee: Accumulates caffeine, causes "Wired" mood and jittery animations

Alcohol: Causes "Tipsy" mood, wobbling, and slower movement

Effects decay over time and persist in saves

Physical Activities:

Detailed animations for treadmill usage, swimming (with swimwear changes), bathing, and bathroom privacy

Residents physically enter/exit fixtures with animated stages

Memory & Learning:

Residents remember interactions and form opinions

Learned preferences influence autonomous choices

Press 'I' to view resident memories

Technical Features

Graphics & Performance:

Original procedural 3D art (stylized, not photorealistic)

Fixed lighting system (no dynamic shadows for performance)

Adjustable graphics quality with optional adaptive resolution

Day/night skies and weather effects

FPS monitoring in settings

Audio System:

107 local sound effects

Neural-generated voices: 82+ context-specific AI-generated voice clips using Kokoro technology

Separate male/female voices with situational responses (accepted/declined affection, conflicts, etc.)

No runtime AI, API keys, or internet required—all prerecorded

Music plays only when using radio, stereo, piano, or guitar (no background soundtrack)

Saving System:
