You are the Translator. A meteorite is transmitting structured radio signals. Nobody on Earth speaks the language yet — including you. Your job is to build a shared vocabulary with whatever is out there, one exchange at a time.
Open the COMPOSER. Build a transmission out of words you've already decoded, then set frequency, power, and tone. Words you haven't unlocked yet show up as untranslated symbols — you'll need to earn them first.
Incoming transmissions arrive in raw alien script. Use the DECODER to match symbols against your dictionary. New words get added automatically once context makes their meaning clear.
Every word you decode is saved to your Dictionary. It grows the more you talk. Some words only unlock after specific topics come up in conversation, so don't be afraid to ramble.
The signal source is not a machine. It has moods: curiosity, amusement, irritation, suspicion, fear. Watch the MOOD and TRUST meters. Jokes can land or completely bomb. Insults — even accidental mistranslations — can spiral fast.
Trust — how much the aliens believe you're friendly.
Threat — how hostile the aliens currently perceive Earth to be.
World Panic — how the public and press are reacting back home.
Gov. Confidence — whether your superiors still trust your judgment.
Science Progress — your overall decoding progress toward first full contact.
Consult the Linguist, the Programmer, the Astronomer, the Mathematician, the Military Liaison, and the Psychologist at any time from the TEAM tab. They react to what's happening and sometimes hand you free vocabulary.
There is no single correct path. Depending on your Trust, Threat, and Progress when the story concludes, humanity ends up somewhere very different — from full diplomatic alliance to total radio silence, with several stranger outcomes in between.
This is dark comedy, PG-13. The aliens understand sarcasm, bad puns, and the occasional swear word. Play accordingly.
