So finally I have added a new feature! It may seem like a simple feature but it could actually help your game be found easier. You can now add up to 10 tags of associated words that categorize your game. Currently we have a very restrictive category system for games, although every game can be fit into these categories one way or another, it does not really categorize your game well in many cases. For example placing your game in the "Shooting" category does not help players find your game who are specifically looking for a "First Person Shooter". You could just search "First Person Shooter" as most games would have this in the description but the tagging system is search engine friendly unlike the search system.
This means that if you tag your game as a "First Person Shooter" it will be stated on the game page, like below, allowing search engines to find and crawl the tag pages like the main category system.
For awhile now I have talked about SEO and although I have put countless hours into optimizing the site, doing on page and off page SEO. Results haven't been great but recently there has been a bit of hope. I decided to rework the keywords for the main pages of the site, which I still have more to do. I decided to choose lower traffic search terms to try and rank for.
It's too early to say how great the changes will be, the reality is that we are now ranking a lot more. Which is good as we have more chances to be seen but down side is these search terms have less searches. Instead of trying to tackle the harder competitive keywords with huge amounts of searches. that being said the reality is that we are competing against very popular aged sites in search engines, so it is not easy. So I hope the tagging system will help us rank for more specific search terms and make the site more visible in the long run.
Thanks,
