TORNADO CHASER — Full Game Description
Overview
Tornado Chaser is an immersive, offline first-person storm-chasing and survival simulator built with Three.js and WebGL2. Developed by happystoner5420 Games, this desktop browser game puts you behind the wheel (and on foot) in the heart of violent supercell thunderstorms across the Great Plains of Oklahoma.
Core Gameplay
Storm Chasing & Research
You play as a professional storm chaser conducting field research on tornadoes. Your objectives include:
Photographing tornadoes using a Pro DSLR camera (250m–1,350m ideal range)
Deploying HITPR Turtle Probes — aerodynamic barometric sensors that record wind speeds, pressure drops, and core intercepts when a tornado passes over them
Transmitting NWS spotter reports to warn local authorities
Scanning with WSR-88D Doppler radar (three modes: Base Reflectivity dBZ, Velocity SRV, Debris CC)
Surviving violent winds, flying debris, and extreme weather conditions
First-Person Vehicle & On-Foot Experience
Drive from the cockpit of 5 specialized storm-chasing vehicles, from a basic Scout SUV to the 18,000-lb armored DOMINATOR-X Interceptor
Press E to exit — even while moving or tumbling through the air! Your view stays at head-level in first person as your 160-pound body inherits the vehicle's momentum
Walk freely using WASD controls with mouse-look, sprint, crouch/brace, and use a flashlight
Physics-accurate tumbling when caught by tornado winds, with quadratic drag, impact damage, and knockback from flying debris
Re-enter vehicles by walking close to a grounded truck
Ten Tornado Morphologies
Experience scientifically-modeled tornado types with distinct visual structures and behaviors:
Wedge — Massive, ground-hugging funnel wider than its height
Multi-Vortex — Main funnel with orbiting sub-vortices (satellite tornadoes)
Stovepipe — Tall, cylindrical funnel
Classic Cone — Textbook tornado shape
Elephant Trunk — Curved, sinuous funnel
Rope — Thin, snaking funnel
Rain-Wrapped — Tornado obscured by heavy precipitation
Satellite Pair — Main tornado with orbiting twin
Dust-Dominated — Vortex visible primarily through debris
Cyclic Tornado Family — Multiple tornadoes from the same supercell
Each tornado is rated on the Enhanced Fujita Scale (EF0–EF5) with realistic wind speeds from 65 mph (EF0) to over 200 mph (EF5).
Game Modes
Career Mode
Progress through 6 scripted intercept scenarios (A–F) with specific objectives:
The Wakita Wedge (EF5 wedge intercept)
Nocturnal Rain-Wrapped Terror (night HP supercell)
Dead Man Walking: Multi-Vortex Study
Trapped on Highway 81 (stovepipe with debris)
The Calm Before Disaster (tornadogenesis observation)
Plains Outbreak: Twin Vortex Family (EF5 satellite pair)
Earn money and reputation from successful photographs, probe intercepts, and survival
Unlock 5 specialized vehicles as you rank up from "Amateur Chaser" to elite researcher
Garage system to purchase and customize your fleet
Sandbox Storm Lab
Spawn and customize any tornado morphology on demand
Adjust EF scale, wind speed (65–310 mph), funnel radius (8–1,200 meters)
Control time of day, green-sky tint, rain/hail intensity, lightning frequency
Instantly spawn tornadoes, trigger lightning strikes, repair vehicles, and experiment freely
The World
Great Plains Open World
Explorable region with Highways 81 (N–S) and 64 (E–W) across rural Oklahoma
41 destructible structures: framed farmhouses, gambrel barns, corrugated silos, motels, utility poles, power lines
Dynamic destruction — roofs and walls detach, fly through the air, and land as persistent wreckage
Underground storm shelters marked with green beacons on radar (safe zones for on-foot players)
Vegetation — trees that bend, lose foliage, uproot, and tumble realistically
NPC traffic, residents, and farm animals that react to the storm
Weather System
Volumetric GLSL vortex shaders with turbulent condensation, dust skirts, rain veils
Rotating supercell structure with wall clouds and hook echo radar signatures
Heavy rain curtains, hail cores, lightning with camera shake and flash effects
Green-sky severe hail tint (supercell signature)
3D spatial WebAudio — tornado sub-bass roar, wind, rain on windshield, engine sounds, thunder rumbles
Vehicle Fleet
Scout SUV — Starting vehicle, reliable AWD
Vortex Ram 3500 — Heavy-duty pickup with reinforced bullbar (starts in main game)
NOMAD Weather Lab Van — Mobile mesonet with high probe capacity
DOW-9 Radar Truck — Scientific truck with deployable hydraulic ground-anchoring spikes
DOMINATOR-X Interceptor — Ultimate armored tank with 235 mph wind resistance and spikes
Survival Mechanics
Vehicle integrity degrades from debris impacts, wind tumbling, and crashes
Player health — injury from falls, flying debris, and high-speed collisions
Fuel management — vehicles consume fuel while driving
Windshield damage — cracks accumulate from hail and debris
Wind lift physics — both vehicles and player can be picked up and thrown by EF4–EF5 tornadoes
Field trauma medkits for emergency healing
Technical Features
100% offline — runs from file:// or local server, no internet required

Atmosphere & Design
Tornado Chaser features a field-console aesthetic with emergency alert banners, meteorological telemetry readouts, and realistic storm briefings. The HUD displays live data including core distance, anemometer readings, barometer pressure, temperature/dewpoint, and vehicle status. The menu design evokes National Weather Service alerts and field operations communications.
This is a substantial stylized realism upgrade using procedural geometry and textures — designed for desktop keyboard and mouse play, requiring GPU hardware acceleration for optimal performance.
